Opals are so beautiful, but fragile. Most people don't know that they should be given an oil bath, now and then, or they could crack. Just put your opal in a little glass of vegetable oil and leave it for a couple of days. Then, take it out and wipe it off. Don't wash it. Some people store their opals in jars of water so they won't crack. Opals are silicons and not that hard.
