Whatever IS In the Oak Island Money Pit???...
It's such a mystery that it's been hard for a lot of people to leave it alone! What's in there, --- ANYWAY???...
For hundreds of years the Pit, on an island off the coast of Nova Scotia, has defied discovery. Digging deep into the earth, bits of coconut fiber were found. Of course, coconut fiber is native to the tropics, not Canada. Then, ninety feet down a stone with strange writing was discovered. An expert claimed to have decoded it. He said it read: "Forty feet below is buried a million pounds." But, no money was found.... The Pit kept filling with water. Some of the water was salty sea water, leaking continuously into the deep, deep hole. An auger was put into the Pit. It came up with gold flecks stuck to it. A camera was lowered into the Pit. It photographed chests of something.
Fascinating, and promising... But, the Pit is either so booby trapped by a genius or geniuses or the result of the natural collapsing of soggy sand and numerous sink holes on Oak Island, that nothing can be brought up. And, six people died of poisoning when gases leaked up out of the deep, deep hole.
The question, of course, IS why would whoever designed it make such elaborate efforts to hide an object or objects if they weren't extremely valuable? Some think maritime engineers designed the very frustrating thing. Here are some theories as to what lies in the Pit:
PIRATE TREASURE --- Captain William Kidd was rumored to have buried treasure somewhere. In fact, a small amount of his gold was discovered shallowly buried in Cherry Tree field on Gardiner Island off the coast of Long Island, New York. This treasure was dug up and sent to England. But, it's thought that he did bury more. A legend says that one of Kidd's crewmen whispered on his death bed that Kidd "buried a treasure east of Boston". Another pirate captain, Henry Avery, a pirate who was never caught, was supposed to have met with other pirates with the intention of making "a bank". In "A General History Of The... Notorious Pirates", by Captain Charles Johnson, the flamboyant Blackbeard was recorded as saying that there was a treasure hidden so well that "only he and Satan could ever find it".
Hmmm... But... Would most pirates bother to save anything of value that they stole? They were horrendous spendthrifts who practically threw their coins away on wild entertainments. One pirate paid a girl fifty pieces of eight to dance naked on a table. A month later he was pennyless, sold into indenture to pay his debts.
But, wait, now it gets really bizarre... Maybe what's buried in the Pit is:
MARIE ANTOINETTE'S JEWELS...
Or, THE HOLY GRAIL or SECRETS OF THE FREEMASONS or of THE KNIGHT TEMPLARS...
Or, even, LOST MANUSCRIPTS OF SHAKESPEARE, proving that his works were actually written by Francis Bacon.
Surely, the Oak Island Money Pit is one of the biggest mysteries on the planet.
